The First Time to Sunk Japanese Warship by Chinese Army
The Japanese army began to attack Xiamen in September 1937 .During the same period, the Japanese government was badly in need of building a sea communication connecting north and south. Xiamen became the first choice o Japanese invader cause its location. Tensions were running high at that time and the garrison troops in Xiamen is deficiency of men. In order to strengthen the defense of Xiamen, national government assigned the 25th Infantry Division(China) to Xiamen. The division commander is Huang Tao, who has been serving as the battalion commander of German Army. He studied in the arsenal of Krupp when he stayed in Germany. He was familiar with the artillery action and Krupp cannon. He knew the important of the coastal cannon in the anti-amphibious operation. He was an intelligent man. The Japanese commander of the 5th Mine Fleet Okuma didn’t attack Xiamen directly. They raided Xiamen at 4:10 pm, September 3. The Japanese Army shelled Xiamen and Hulishan Fortress fired back with other forts. The Krupp cannon hit the Japanese warship No.13—type “Wakatake”. Then the ship sunk in the north of Qingyu. The invading troops began to retreat after the ship sunk. It is the first warship sunk in southeast sea area of China during the Anti-Japanese War. Huang Tao summarized the lessons after this battle. He built a blind age to protect the eastern and western forts. It is what we see now. Hulishan Fortress and the Krupp cannon played an important role during the Anti-Japanese War.
